Virgin Orbit Shuts Down After Mission Failure and Financial Struggles

Virgin Orbit, a rocket company founded by Sir Richard Branson in 2017, has shut down after experiencing a mission failure and struggling to secure funding.

The company's first satellite mission in the UK reached space but fell short of its target orbit, and it later paused operations and laid off almost all employees in an attempt to boost its finances.

Despite the success of its UK mission, Virgin Orbit never made a profit and ultimately filed for bankruptcy protection in the US.

Its rival, Rocket Lab, has purchased its headquarters, rocket factory, and equipment.
