Hong Kong authorities should also review quarantine rules for aircrew after they shorten the quarantine period for inbound travelers, said Li Wing-foo, chairman of the Staffs and Workers Union of Hong Kong Civil Airlines.
His comments came after the government cuts hotel quarantine for overseas arrivals to 3 days from Friday, with travelers to undergo another four days of “home medical surveillance” that will allow limited movement into areas where vaccine pass checks are not mandatory.
Speaking on a radio program on Friday, the union head said despite the latest change, the aircrew’s quarantine measures remain unchanged, with the crew members still required to undergo seven days of hotel quarantine and subject to stringent closed-loop arrangement.
Li said he expected authorities to review its policy and relax quarantine measures for aircrew members.
He also noted that only time will tell if the latest change in quarantine rules for inbound travelers could revive the aviation industry.
