Two private hospitals reported for prescribing wrong medicine

The Department of Health reported three cases of two private hospitals administering the wrong medications to patients.

According to the Department, in July this year, a 45-year-old male patient was wrongly prescribed an oral chemotherapy drug he is allergic to at CUHK Medical Centre in Sha Tin.

Besides, in September this year, a 67-year-old male patient was administered an intravenous chemotherapy drug at the wrong rate in the same hospital.

Also, in Union Hospital, a female patient, 29, was erroneously administered an antibiotic for which she had a known drug allergy history.

The department said it had received an unsolicited report from the hospitals involved after the accidents announcing the three patients were now in stable condition.

"Earlier this year, we have received another three cases of medication wrongly prescribed," added the department.
