A woman was suspected of being defrauded in Tsim Sha Tsui, losing 1.5 million in digital currencies.

At about 1.11pm on Wednesday, police received a report from a woman that she, together with two male friends, was to meet a man on the second floor of Cke Shopping Mall in Tsim Sha Tsui to exchange cryptocurrencies.

However, the man took her to a store specializing in cryptocurrencies and locked her in using the excuse of obtaining an online link to receive the money. He then fled after stealing 1.5 million digital currencies.

Her friends eventually found the woman after they noticed that she had been away for too long.

Police officers sealed the store concerned and reviewed the CCTV footage in the mall. As a result, the case was listed as theft and was transferred to Yau Tsim Police District for follow-up.
