Tonnes of fruit and veg waste saved by volunteers

Across the UK, volunteer harvesters are helping to fight food waste by sending produce to food banks.

An estimated 3.6m tonnes of food produced by farms each year ends up as surplus or waste, according to 2021 research by the environmental charity WRAP.

Watch how volunteer harvesters, otherwise known as gleaners, are helping to fight food waste straight from the source - the farms themselves.
