Tickets to meet mainland Olympians almost sold out

A total of 5,300 tickets to meet 29 mainland Olympians in early December are nearly sold out as of Friday afternoon.

The top national team athletes who competed in the Tokyo Olympic Games will visit Hong Kong from December 3 to 5 and showcase their talent in three events.

The sale of the tickets to the three events started at 10am this morning, and almost 90 percent of the tickets were sold within the first hour, the Leisure and Cultural Services Department said, adding that the sale proceeded smoothly on the URBTIX website.

The ticketing website could not be reached before 10am due to the overwhelming response by citizens, causing a busy network.

A notice said the system was working normally but was processing purchases by a large number of customers, reminding visitors that pressing the refresh key “F5” would not help them access the ticket purchase page.

There were only a limited number of tickets for wheelchair-accessible seats left as of 3.30pm.

Citizens said although they reached the website by 10am, they only successfully bought the tickets to the Olympians Variety Show and the Badminton, Fencing, Gymnastics, and Table Tennis Demonstrations after 2.30pm.

Fencing champion Sun Yiwen will show his skills in fencing, while fellow gold medalists Wang Yilyu and Huang Dongping will play badminton at the Queen Elizabeth Stadium on December 4.

Wang Zongyuan and Xie Siyi will showcase their diving, while Yang Junxuan and Tang Muhan will be swimming at the Victoria Park pool on the same day.

The 29 athletes will also participate in a variety show at the Stadium at 5pm on Saturday.
