The Immigration Department arrested 13 persons across the city in a series of anti-illegal worker operations in the past few days.
Officers of the department's task force raided 19 target locations on Monday, Tuesday and yesterday. The target locations included a bakery, car parks, a food processing factory, massage parlours, restaurants, a residential building and retail shops.
A total of eight suspected illegal workers were arrested. The arrestees comprised three men and five women, aged from 27 to 49. Among them, two men and two women were holders of recognisance forms, which prohibit them from taking any employment.
Officers also arrested four men and one woman, aged from 29 to 57, suspected of employing the illegal workers.
A spokesperson for the department said any person who contravenes a condition of stay in force in respect of him or her shall be guilty of an offense.
The spokesperson added visitors are not allowed to take employment in Hong Kong, whether paid or unpaid, without the permission of the Director of Immigration. Offenders are liable to prosecution and face a maximum fine of HK$50,000 and up to two years' imprisonment upon conviction.
An illegal immigrant, an overstayer, a person who is the subject of a removal order is prohibited from taking any employment as well, the spokesperson noted. Offenders are liable to a maximum fine of HK$50,000 and up to three years' imprisonment upon conviction
