A father and son were found dead in a fire at a Wan Chai flat in the early hours of Thursday, with investigators deeming the fire suspicious after traces of fire accelerants were found on the scene, and the father’s burned body found with a knife stabbed into his chest.

Firefighters were called to Kam Lok Mansion on Lockhart Road at about 3am, and it took more than an hour to put the blaze out. More than 20 residents living in the building were evacuated.

The son, believed to be in his 30s, was found unconscious in the building and was later declared dead in Ruttonjee Hospital. While the 89-year-old father’s burned body, suffering from a knife wound, was found inside the flat and certified at the scene.

Police's initial investigation said no third party was involved in the incident, and there were no signs of a fight before the fire broke out. The case is now handled by the Wan Chai crime unit.
