A Hong Kong student who got shot at by police in Sai Wan Ho during the social unrest in 2019 has been convicted of three charges, including obstructing a police officer and attempting to snatch an officer’s gun.
The student Chow Pak-kwan, who was 21 at the time of the incident, appeared before judge Adriana Noelle Tse Ching at District Court on Monday.
Chow was found guilty of three charges, including obstructing a police officer and attempting to snatch an officer’s gun, as well as attempted escape from legal custody.
Meanwhile, another defendant Woo Tsz-kin, who was charged with attempting to snatch an officer’s gun and obstructing a police officer, was also convicted of both charges.
The two had pleaded not guilty to all charges last year.
The court will reconvene on October 10 for mitigation, as both defendants will be remanded in custody till then.
Ahead of his court appearance, Chow wrote on his Facebook page yesterday night that he “was prepared for the worst”.
“Tomorrow is the day of the verdict. The incident can finally get closure after almost three years. I have mixed feelings and I don’t know what I can say,” the post read.
“[I] hope for the best but am prepared for the worst,” he continued. “Thank you to everybody who has supported and cared for me during this time. I’ve troubled you all for so long. I hope everybody stays healthy and can do anything as they wish. Add oil! I will stay strong too.”
