Strong Wind Signal No. 8 downgraded to No. 3

The observatory has downgraded the Strong Signal No.8 to No.3 at 4.40pm on Wednesday, while the amber rainstorm warning signal remains in force.

The public should expected winds with mean speeds of 41 to 62 kilometers per hour.

At 4 pm, Typhoon Kompasu was estimated to be about 520 kilometers southwest of Hong Kong and is forecast to move west at about 22 kilometers per hour across Hainan Island.

Outer rainbands of Kompasu continue to affect the coast of Guangdong. The associated rain may lead to flooding in low-lying and poorly drained areas. Seas will be rough with swells as well.

In the past hour, the maximum sustained winds recorded at Tap Mun and Waglan Island were 59 and 56 kilometers per hour with maximum gusts 71 and 67 kilometers per hour respectively.

The station reminded the public that strong winds are still blowing. They should stay away from watercourses and should not relax taking precautions.
