The observatory is considering replacing the Strong Wind Signal No. 8 with the Signal No. 3 in the afternoon to the evening on Saturday.

The No. 8 Southeast Gale or Storm Signal, issued at 6.40am, is still in force. This means that winds with mean speeds of 63 kilometers per hour or more are expected from the southeast quarter.
At 1pm, Tropical Storm Lionrock was centered about 540 kilometers west-southwest of Hong Kong and is forecast to move northwest or north-northwest slowly across Hainan Island and into Beibu Wan.
Under the combined effect of Lionrock and the northeast monsoon, strong to gale force winds prevail over the coast of Guangdong.
There are also gales over some places over the territory, with occasional storm force winds persisting on the high ground over the southwestern part of Hong Kong under the influence of the outer rainbands of Lionrock.
Storm surge induced by Lionrock and heavy rain may lead to flooding in low-lying areas, while seas will be rough with swells.
