Retired cop remanded in custody over parking row in Tuen Mun

A 57-year-old former cop was remanded in custody while his 58-year-old wife was released on bail on Wednesday after the couple was charged with manslaughter over a parking dispute in Tuen Mun, where a man died.

Kwong Tak-wing and laundry contractor Ruby Lee Kwai-fong were charged with manslaughter for unlawfully killing 55-year-old van driver Berry Chan Kwok-leung at the taxi stand outside exit A of Siu Hong MTR station on November 28, 2021.

The case was mentioned at Tuen Mun Magistrates' Courts this morning and was adjourned to January 26, 2022, awaiting further investigation. In the meantime, officers will check the physical evidence, and forensics will conduct fingerprint and DNA examination as well as an autopsy.

Kwong and Lee both applied for bail, but the former saw his request denied by the court, meaning he would be remanded in custody.

Meanwhile, Lee was granted bail of HK$200,000. Other conditions include that she must hand over all travel documents and must not leave the city. She must report to a police station once a week as well.

The couple allegedly started an argument with Chan over a parking spot outside the train station, and the incident soon escalated into a fight. Chan passed out afterward and was admitted to the hospital, where he was certified dead on Sunday.
