The government has to suspend a relocation project after the settlement of railway facilities between Kowloon MTR Station and Olympic MTR Station exceeded the permitted level.
It said today that during the relocation of supporting operational facilities on Tuesday, including Tsim Sha Tsui Fire Station Complex, Fire Services Club and other Fire Services Accommodations on To Wah Road in Kowloon, the reading recorded in one of the settlement monitoring checkpoints between Kowloon Station and Olympic Station on the Tung Chung Line had reached 20.27 millimeters, slightly exceeding 20 mm, the pre-set trigger level for works suspension.
The monitoring checkpoints were set up according to the established procedures for railway protection areas to facilitate the monitoring of settlement data.
Upon the MTR's request, for the sake of prudence, the relevant works within the railway protection area were suspended on the same day.
The Buildings Department and the Architectural Services Department have inspected the railway tunnel concerned and confirmed that it is structurally safe.
After reviewing the monitoring data, the Electrical and Mechanical Services Department confirmed that the condition of the railway fulfills the operational safety requirements.
The construction works concerned were reported to not have affected the structural safety of the railway facilities and safe operation of the railway.
The ArchSD and the MTR will request the contractor to formulate mitigation measures and adopt a construction method that would alleviate the effects on the structure of railway facilities.
The ArchSD, the BD and the EMSD will announce the decision to the public later when construction is approved to resume.
