Recycled rubbish volume climbs 29% in 2020

Around 1,088,000 tonnes of rubbish collected during municipal pickup in Hungary last year was recycled, 29% more than in 2019, the Hungarian Energy and Public Utility Regulatory Authority (MEKH) said on Tuesday, according to a report by state news wire MTI.

The total volume of rubbish collected on curbside pickup reached 3,245,000 tonnes, MEKH said.

About three-quarters of rubbish picked up last year was mixed, 9% was green waste, 8% packaging waste, 4% furniture and demolition waste, and 1% glass.

MEKH noted that rubbish volume edged up from 3,242,000 tonnes in 2019, after climbing from 3,011,000 tonnes in 2018.
