Protesters angry about recent election results have stormed Kyrgyzstan’s parliament building and nearby state security headquarters in Bishkek, the capital of the Central Asian country.
The Jogorku Kenesh Building, near the capital’s central square Aloo-Ta, was ransacked just before the nearby security offices were attacked on October 6, 2020.
The offices of President Sooronbay Jeenbekov were trashed during the clashes, and supporters of imprisoned ex-president Almazbek Atambayev freed the 64-year-old from jail. Kyrgyzstan has been rocked by unrest since the October 4 elections, which many demonstrators say was rigged.
