A caravan of citizens protesting on Balboa Avenue against the measures adopted by the President in the midst of the coronavirus pandemic, found police checkpoints in front of the Comptroller's Office and another at the entrance to the Old Town.
At the first checkpoint, police officers initially applied for the protesters' identification cards and licenses, but then decided to allow the caravan to advance. The group intended to reach the Presidency of the Republic, but the checkpoint installed at the entrance to San Felipe prevented them from going further.
Most of the participants in the protest ask for the end of the quarantine, ordered by the President to manage the pandemic. The Cabinet has declared a state of national emergency since last March 13.
In the provinces of Panama and Panama West, there is currently a curfew from 7:00 PM to 5:00 AM, Monday through Friday. On the weekend, the curfew is from Saturday 5:00 PM to Monday 5:00 AM. The mobility of the population is conditional on gender: women can go out, for two hours, according to the last number of the ID, on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays; while men are allowed to go out on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays.

One of the protesters said that the police wanted to confiscate his vehicle and he had appealed to article 38 of the Constitution, which indicates grants rights for citizens to protest peacefully.
