Pope Francis Recovering After Successful Hernia Surgery, Cancels Audiences Until June 18

Pope Francis has resumed work after spending a good night in hospital following hernia surgery.

He spent most of the morning in an armchair rather than in bed.

His post-operative recovery is proceeding as expected.

All papal audiences have been cancelled until June 18 to give him time to recover.

This is the third time he has undergone surgery since 2013, when he became the head of the worldwide Catholic Church.
