A total of 258 people have been arrested in relation to violent protests and unlicensed music events in London, the Met Police have said.
Five people were arrested on suspicion of violent disorder between May 31 and June 24 this morning, the force said in a statement. They included a man, 40, from Lewisham, a second man, 58, from Hammersmith and Fulham, and a third man, 31, from Saltburn-By-The-Sea.
Two men, aged 40 and 44, from Middlesbrough were also arrested. The 44-year-old is also accused of assaulting an emergency worker.
The force also said six other men were also arrested on July 4 on suspicion of violent disorder linked to protests which took place last month. They included a man from Cheshunt, 35, from Romford, 30, from New Malden, 18, from Edmonton, 36, from Wood Green, 27, and of no fixed address, 35.
They have have each been released under police investigation as enquiries continue, a spokesperson said.
Detectives have now released 22 CCTV images of people they wish to speak to in relation to incidents between June 3 and June 13. They have also re-released pictures of people believed to be involved in the protests who have not yet been identified.
Commander Bas Javid, from the Metropolitan Police Service, said: ‘When London witnessed the frankly unacceptable levels of violence during recent protests we said those actions would have consequences. This morning’s activity is proof of that and we expect to make more arrests for those who joined these demonstrations with the sole intention to cause trouble.
‘During clashes with police, a small minority targeted officers with racial abuse or violence – pelting them with bottles, rocks or other items. Officers across the capital come to work to keep Londoners safe, it was deeply frustrating seeing them being so senselessly assaulted.
‘As part of our commitment to holding those responsible for the violence to justice, we are also releasing more images today of those we suspect have been involved in clashes. If you have any information on the identity of these people, please get in touch.
‘I would like to thank those people who have come to us with information so far. Your information has been pivotal in helping us make these arrests today.’
