A male driver who ignored police roadblocks and sped up on Tsing Sha Highway in the early hours on Saturday was arrested as the pursuit ended outside the People's Liberation Army camp on Stonecutters Island.

Police set up roadblocks near the Stonecutters Bridge to stop and search suspicious vehicles around 1am today. A white car didn't stop as instructed by officers and sped up to rush through the police's roadblock on the highway.

Officers immediately followed the car and tried to intercept it. The vehicle first reached Container Port Road South and turned into Chi Ngong Road towards Container Terminal Eight before finally pulling over outside the People's Liberation Army camp.

Soldiers inside the camp once stood guard at the gate while some went out to see what was happening.

The male driver was not found drinking nor taking any drugs. After investigation, police arrested him for dangerous driving, driving while disqualified, and driving a car without third-party insurance.

The man's wife and a child were on board the vehicle as well at that time. The wife, who owns the white car, was also arrested for allowing others to drive while disqualified and allowing others to drive a vehicle without third-party insurance.
