A 74-year-old man died after his paraglider crashed into a tree in Shek O.

At around 2pm on Thursday, the man went to Dragon's Back in Shek O for paragliding. It was suspected he lost control of the equipment after a change of wind direction.

The paraglider drifted towards the direction of Tai Fung Au in the Eastern District and got trapped in a tree.

Police received a report from his friend and searched around Tai Fung Au alongside firefighters.

They eventually found him at To Tei Wan – two kilometers from Dragon's Back.

He was rescued by a helicopter and sent to the Ruttonjee Hospital in a coma, and was certified dead at the hospital.

The case is under investigation.

Back in 2018, veteran paraglider pilot Patrick Chung Yuk-wa was found dead six days after he went missing. The 44-year-old was found near Lantau's Sunset Peak, about one kilometer northeast of where he took off.
