Over 400 Laotians regain vision by charity's cataract surgeries

A charity's medical team had helped more than 400 Laotian people regain vision through cataract surgeries in 40 days.

GX Foundation, a non-profit charitable Chinese organization established in Hong Kong, has sent a medical team from Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region and launched its first cataract blindness elimination project in Vientiane, Laos.

The team completed 402 cataract surgeries in September.

The foundation's project director Liu Sida said the team had encountered different challenges during preparation of the project, including travelling restrictions due to the pandemic, language barriers, and the lack of equipment and resources locally, but managed to over the difficulties with a good team spirit.

The foundation will launch another cataract blindness elimination project in Prey Veng province of the Kingdom of Cambodia next month.
