Over 100 pay last respects to victims in fatal San Po Kong car crash

Around 100 people dressed in black clothing reached Tai Yau Street in San Po Kong on Saturday afternoon and paid their last respects to two victims who died in a car crash there.

The tragedy took place at around 6pm Friday night, when a speeding car lost control, ran onto the sidewalk and hit six pedestrians. A 23-year-old woman surnamed Sze and a 63-year-old man surnamed Lee died after they were hit by the car, while four others sustained injuries.

The 25-year-old male driver was arrested for dangerous driving causing death.

The family of Sze staged a Taoism ritual for her at around 4pm and over 100 family members, friends and co-workers of Sze could be spotted at the scene. Some cried emotionally while others placed flowers on the side of the road.

It was understood that Sze lived in Tsz Wan Shan and she had just started working as a community organizer for only a short while. She just got off work and was heading home when the incident happened.

As for Lee, he was a electrician who lived in Tseung Kwan O. He worked in San Po Kong and suspectedly walked past the road when the incident took place.

Some other citizens also came and placed white flowers on the road.

On the other hand, police officers put notices on the fence railing and called on citizens to contact Kowloon East traffic special investigation team if they witness the incident or they can provide relevant information.
