One more job scam victim returns home

The Security Bureau said that one more Hong Kong resident who had sought help from the Immigration Department has safely returned to Hong Kong from Thailand.

A spokesperson said the man returned on Tuesday with the assistance of the Office of the Commissioner of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in the HKSAR, the Chinese Embassy in Myanmar, the Chinese Embassy in Thailand, the Security Bureau's dedicated task force, and the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office in Bangkok.

Since the establishment of the Security Bureau's dedicated task force, 15 trafficked people who sought help have returned to Hong Kong safely.

The authorities have not released the person's identity or other information related to the job scam.

Secretary for Security Chris Tang Ping-keung said on Monday that 46 Hongkongers who were ensnared in southeast Asian job scams were forced to seek help from the administration, while 13 are still in Southeast Asia with limited freedom, although he believes they are safe.
