One dead in two-car collision at Tate's Cairn Tunnel

Two cars collided in the Tate's Cairn Tunnel during Monday evening peak hours. One of the drivers was trapped inside the car and fell into a coma. He was later pronounced dead after being taken to the hospital.

At about 5pm, a white private car driving on the tunnel tube fast lane towards Sha Tin was suspected of failing to brake and hit a Tesla electric car in front of it.

The private car driver was trapped, while other drivers reported the accident to the police.

The trapped man was rescued by firefighters and sent to Prince of Wales Hospital. He was later pronounced dead. An 8-year-old boy in the car said that his father suddenly fell unconscious due to a health issue before he crash into the front car. The boy sustained minor injuries after the collision.

Tate's Cairn Highway sees heavy traffic jams after the accident. The tunnel tube fast lane of Tate's Cairn Tunnel (Sha Tin bound) which was closed due to traffic accident is re-opened to all traffic. Traffic queues take time to disperse.
