Off-duty cop fired service gun by accident in Tai Wai

An off-duty cop fired his service revolver by accident inside his Tai Wai home on Sunday. No one was injured.

At 12.25pm Sunday, police received a report from a police officer that his gun went off by accident inside a flat at Block B, Ka Tin Court.

It was understood that the officer is from the Criminal Investigation Department of Sau Mo Ping district.

He was preparing to go to work at that time, and was handling his revolver at his room when it went off. The bullet hit the floor.

The officer's parents were in the sitting room when the accident happened. No one was injured.

Police headed to his flat for investigation and collected evidence including his warrant card.

There have been multiple cases of service guns going off by accident in the past, but most of those cases happened inside police stations.

The latest case was when an auxiliary policewoman accidentally fired at her own leg on January 23 this year.
