Off-duty cop accused of beating girlfriend released on bail

A 26-year-old off-duty cop accused of beating and kicking his girlfriend between July and December last year saw his case adjourned to late June on Wednesday and was released on bail.

Max Pang Tin-yue was charged with two counts of common assault and two counts of assault occasioning actual bodily harm.

He appeared in the Eastern Magistrates' Courts on Wednesday and needed not yet enter a plea.

The charges accused Pang of assaulting his girlfriend, surnamed Wong, in a unit at The Metropolis Residence in Hung Hom on July 5, 2021, and in a unit at EAST Residences on Tong Chong Street in Quarry Bay on July 15.

Pang was also accused of doing actual bodily harm to Wong in a room at Sau Tai House in Fu Tai Estate, Tuen Mun, on October 14 and at Po Lam MTR station on Christmas Eve. It was understood that Pang slapped Wong, kicked her, and pinched her body.

The case was then adjourned to June 29 for the defense to seek legal advice and retrieve other documents.

He was granted cash bail until his next court appearance and was barred from approaching the prosecution's witnesses directly or indirectly.
