New chairman of Consumer Council appointed

Clement Chan Kam-wing was appointed as Chairman of the Consumer Council for a term of two years. He was a co-opted member of audit committee of the Council.

He is currently a co-opted member of the audit committee of the West Kowloon Cultural District Authority and Non-Executive Director of the Securities and Futures Commission and Hong Kong Mortgage Corporation Limited. He is an Honorary Advisor to the Financial Reporting Council.

He also serves as a member of Audit Committee of the Hong Kong Institute of Certified Public Accountants, a member of the Independent Police Complaints Council, and a member of Solicitors Disciplinary Tribunal Panel.

Chan was the President of the Hong Kong Institute of Certified Public Accountants in 2014.

"With his extensive experience in and strong commitment to public service, we are confident that Chan will provide able leadership for the development of the Council in protecting and promoting consumer interests in Hong Kong," a government spokesman said on Monday.

The spokesman also thanked Paul Lam Ting-kwok, the former Consumer Council Chairman who has assumed the post of the Secretary for Justice, for his distinguished contributions to the Council.
