'Needle-stabbing' incident on bus returns in Causeway Bay

A female passenger had her back stabbed by a needle that stuck out of a bus seat on a route 81 bus on Friday, marking the second such case within the week.

The incident occurred around 2pm on Friday on route 81 bus heading from Hing Wah Estate in Chai Wan to Lai Tak Tsuen in Causeway Bay.

A 60-year-old woman boarded the bus at the Tak Chuen Lau stop and sat on a seat near the window on the lower deck. She subsequently had the right-hand side of her back hurt by the 5-cm-long needle as she sat down.

She immediately informed the bus driver of the incident, who filed a report to police. Paramedics responded to the scene and treated the woman, who needed not to be admitted to a hospital. Police also conducted an investigation and searched for evidence on the bus.

Officers have listed the case as common assault and criminal damage. The case is now handled by Eastern District crime investigation team and no one has been arrested so far.

It is the second “stabbing” on bus within the same week. On Monday, a needle hidden on a seat on route 73 bus hurt the hip of a male passenger.
