MPF watchdog holds study and sharing session on "Spirit of Xi’s Important Speech”

Hong Kong's pension regulator on Thursday arranged a discussion for its colleagues to develop a deeper understanding of the spirit of Chinese President Xi Jinping's important speech that was delivered on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of HKSAR.

A study and sharing session was arranged to enable its senior management to “grasp the core essence of President Xi’s important speech, which provides crucial guidance on the future development of the MPFA,” the Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Authority (MPFA) said in the statement.

This came after the MPF watchdog was invited to participate in a session on “Spirit of the President’s Important Speech” held by the Civil Service Bureau yesterday (July 20).

Xi mentioned that the central government fully supports Hong Kong’s effort to maintain its distinctive status and advantages, including enhancing its status as an international financial centre. MPFA Chairwoman Ayesha Macpherson Lau explained the MPF System is a retirement savings investment plan with wide coverage and that it is closely related to the public’s livelihood.

“The MPF System can fully capitalize on the advantages of diverse financial products, high-quality services and a robust regulatory system, so that Hong Kong’s status as an international financial centre can benefit more citizens directly,” Lau said in the study and sharing session.

Lau stated that the successful implementation of the eMPF Platform project is of the utmost importance to the MPFA. The Platform is poised to create a brand new user experience, lower administration costs, and expedite the digitalization of the MPF industry.

She added that MPFA will continue to organize different activities “for colleagues to continue to study President Xi’s important speech and to deepen their correct understanding of the country’s development.”
