A new interchange for buses plying Kowloon-bound routes will open at the Tseung Kwan O Tunnel Toll Plaza on May 1.
This is the latest development down the road from the opening of the Tseung Kwan O-bound side of the tunnel interchange in October.
Buses on 30 routes - 14 from departing from Tseung Kwan O run by Kowloon Motor Bus - will stop at the interchange. They comprise 15 whole-day, four early-morning-only and 11 peak-hour-only services.
The three major operators will also offer discounts following the new interchange's commencement.
KMB will only require passengers traveling from Tseung Kwan O to pay the full fare for a single trip by Octopus card, whichever is higher, under the latest urban-bound interchange discount scheme.
Its buses servicing cross-harbor routes 690 and 690P, jointly operated with Citybus, will offer passengers a cross-company interchange discount.
Those boarding those buses at the interchange and traveling to Hong Kong Island by designated routes, or vice versa, can enjoy an interchange discount of up to HK$9.60 on the second leg.
New World First Bus and Citybus will offer passengers an interchange discount of between HK$8.60 and HK$24 on the second leg within a limited period of time.
This includes Citybus's airport-bound route A29, for which passengers can enjoy an interchange discount of up to HK$24 on the second leg.
Also starting from May 1, buses on NWFB's route 694 and Citybus' routes 690, 690P and N29 will start charging section fares from the interchange, instead of the stops outside Lam Tin Polyclinic General Out-Patient Clinic and Kai Tin Shopping Center in Kwun Tong.
KMB welcomed the interchange, saying it would diversify transport choices for residents of Hing Tin and Lam Tin estates and Hong Wah Court in Lam Tin.
The Transport Department said shelters, seats and display panels with buses' estimated arrival time will be provided at the new interchange.
