A 24-year-old man was arrested yesterday, suspected of having sex with a 14-year-old girl he met online.
Police received a report on Wednesday, saying a 14-year-old girl met a man online earlier, who then brought the girl to a hotel in Tsim Sha Tsui and had sex with her in mid-August.
The case was then handed over to Yau Tsim Mong district crime squad. After investigation, officers arrested a 24-year-old man surnamed Chan in connection to the case in Tsim Sha Tsui.
The case is listed as unlawful sexual intercourse with a girl under the age of 16. The man is currently remanded for questioning.
Officers called on the members of the public to be cautious when using the Internet. They added parents should also strengthen communication with kids so they won't fall into the traps of criminals.
