A man was arrested by police after he stole cash worth over HK$5,000 from the buses at Long Ping Station Bus Terminal in Yuen Long.
The incident happened around 3am today. A KMB staffer at the scene found a man acting strangely at the terminal and reported to the police.
Officers then arrived at the scene and intercepted him. After investigation, officers found money was stolen from the cash boxes on nine buses. Six cash boxes were found empty, with over HK$5,000 gone. Officers then arrested the 32-year-old man surnamed Wong.
The case is listed as bus theft. It is now handled by Yuen Long district crime squad.
According to the staffer, KMB will send staff to collect the money in the cash boxes once every four to five days. The staffer estimated there is around HK$1,000 in each cash box.
The staffer also predicted that the thieve started the bus and entered onboard to commit the crime.
