Man arrested after burning newspaper outside Kowloon Masjid

A 22-year-old man was arrested after he grabbed a pile of free newspapers and burned them using a lighter outside Kowloon Masjid and Islamic Centre this morning.

Police received report from a 61-year-old woman around 7.30am, who was distributing Headline Daily – The Standard's sister newspaper at Tsim Sha Tsui A1 Exit. She said a man grabbed a pile of the newspapers and burned them with a lighter outside the Kowloon Masjid and Islamic Centre.

The man left the burned newspaper on the ground and ran away, police was told. Officers then arrived at the scene to investigate. They later intercepted the suspect on Cameron Road and arrested him for arson.

According to police, the suspect is a 22-year-old man surnamed Chiu. Investigation is still ongoing.
