Macau sees multiple floods as red rain signal takes effect

Macau saw multiple floods across the city on Wednesday, as some goods and motorcycles reported being damaged.

According to Macao Meteorological and Geophysical Bureau, the red rainstorm warning signal was in effect until 4.05pm.

As of 4pm, the Avenida Dos Jogos Da Asia Oriental in Taipa recorded 236mm of total precipitation and Taipa Grande saw 213.4mm.

On Macau Peninsula, Porto Exterior recorded 184mm and Delegacao De Coloane 154mm.

Many places in the urban area were flooded, while Cotai saw knee-deep water. Many motorcycles were damaged by the water, and some merchants reported goods destroyed in floods.

Parents were seen picking up their children from school starting at noon. Some videos uploaded by citizens showed yellow mud water pouring into running buses in Seac Pai Van.

The bureau said under the continuous influence of the trough of low pressure, unsettled weather is expected in Macao from June 8 to 10, with heavy showers and thunderstorms.

Citizens were recommended to pay close attention to the latest weather information, take precautions against flooding and plan their transportation in advance.

In addition, the weather department in Zhuhai raised the city's rainstorm warning signal to red, under which all schools were closed in the afternoon while the National College Entrance Examination would continue.
