Speaking at a forum on patriotic education this morning, Lam added that there was no systemic patriotic education before and after the handover of the city.
She pointed out that efforts in promoting moral, civic and national education was stigmatized by the media, as well as people with ulterior motives. It destroyed students' national identity and left endless troubles for the future, Lam said.
Lam also said recently foreign forces and people with ulterior motives took advantages of the complicated political situation of Hong Kong, leading youngsters to misunderstand China.
They tried to blur youngsters' recognition as a Chinese national citizen, and encouraged them to carry out extreme behaviours, she added.
Therefore, different sectors of the city should come together and promote patriotic education so that teenagers' values will be rectified with patriotism, said Lam.
