The Kowloon Motor Bus company’s 16 new electric buses have commenced service on Monday, traveling along busy corridors including Nathan Road.
The new fleet of electric single-deckers will first be deployed on Route 6, traveling between Lai Chi Kok and Tsim Sha Tsui starting today.
The new model - manufactured by China’s BYD - can deliver 200 km of zero-emission transport after taking 1 hour and 40 minutes to get fully charged, with its passenger capacity increased by 16 percent to 81 people when compared to the old model K9R electric bus.
According to KMB, the fleet will also provide free 5G Wi-Fi internet connection services to passengers.
Meanwhile, another 52 double-deck electric buses purchased by KMB are planned to be delivered by next year from China’s BYD and the United Kingdom’s Alexander Dennis Limited.
“KMB will have over 80 electric buses in its fleet by next year, including these new batches of electric buses and the current 30 electric single-deckers, moving forward to upgrading the entire fleet to new energy buses by 2050,” the bus company wrote in a statement.
