Part of the Kai Tak Quarantine Centre may be transformed into a youth hostel to meet young people’s housing needs, according to government sources.

It is understood that the city’s deputy finance chief Michael Wong Wai-lun has been tasked by the chief executive with planning the future usage of the quarantine facilities.

Sources said the Kai Tak Quarantine Centre has been shortlisted as one of the possible sites to be transformed into a youth hostel, given there were individual bathrooms for each unit and the center is located close to urban areas.

Responding to media inquiries, Wong’s spokesperson said the office has been carrying out work assigned by the chief executive with its analysis in progress.
