Justice Chief leads government officials and lawmakers meeting, confirms city’s legal proceedings

Over 50 Hong Kong lawmakers led by Secretary for Justice Paul Lam Ting-kwok joined on Wednesday the government’s fourth "antechamber exchange session," the city’s monthly meeting between the executive branch and legislative body.

The session, which was joined by seven officers from legislative departments, focused mainly on the measures issued by the Department of Justice under the Policy Address, including the popularization of rule of law education, integration and development of legal services in the Greater Bay Area, promotion of legal and dispute resolution services, and legal technology and protection on children and labor.

"The Department of Justice will make every effort to ensure every person who is involved in a legal proceeding has the right to a fair and impartial process," said Lam, in response to questions over the recent national security cases in the city, when delivering his speech at the meeting.

However, the justice minister refused to comment about the Department of Justice’s decision issued this Monday asking all non-government counsel taking prosecution assignments to sign a document to show they will "fully comply with" the National Security Law.
