Journalists complete book on saving the Amazon in tribute to slain reporter

Journalists and friends of Dom Phillips, a British journalist who was killed in the Brazilian Amazon last year, have come together to complete the book he was working on at the time of his death.

The book, titled "How to Save the Amazon: Ask the People Who Know," is a character-driven, research-based book that aims to inform and mobilize readers about the fate of the Amazon.

The team of experienced Amazon writers includes Eliane Brum, Tom Phillips, Jon Lee Anderson, Katia Brasil, Andrew Fishman, and others who will carry out reporting trips to write the book's remaining chapters.

The project is a tribute to Phillips' work and legacy as both a person and a journalist, and aims to ensure that his reporting on Amazon defenders does not die with him.

The book is particularly important now as the Amazon is a battleground of ideas within Brazil and at the center of many of the big disputes threatening the new government of Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva.
