Jailed Joshua Wong thanks supporters for birthday blessing

Jailed activist Joshua Wong Chi-fung who turned 25 today (Wednesday) thanked supporters and the public for their blessing, saying prisoners regardless of their background want to be remembered.

His letter dated October 6 was shared on his social media page by his friends and team. He said his heart was warmed when reading letters from citizens who sent him their blessing before his birthday.

He also said those in prison, regardless of their background, all want to be remembered and hope people will miss them even they now have a lot on their plates.

Wong in the letter recalled how he spent previous birthdays during domestic movements and protests.

“We sang birthday song on Harcourt Road in Admiralty during the Umbrella movement, and unexpectedly celebrated my 20th birthday in Nathan Law Kwun-chung's office in the Legislative Council complex.

“Then I spend my 21st birthday in prison for the first time over the sentencing of the Civic Square case,” Wong pointed out.

He expressed gratitude to his parents, who have been caring, tolerant along the way. He also thanked them for raising and educating him well.

Wong was grateful for being able to write to those who matter as well. Although some friends may have left, he believed they will cross path some day in the future.
