Hurricane Dorian slams the US and British Virgin Islands

Hurricane Dorian is expected to strengthen as it crosses warm Atlantic waters, potentially becoming a Category 4 hurricane by the time it makes landfall on Florida's eastern coast early next week. Gov Ron DeSantis declared a state of emergency as Dorian was upgraded from a tropical storm to a hurricane. Officials urged residents to stock up on a week's worth of supplies and to be prepared to evacuate. Dorian was expected to hit Puerto Rico on Wednesday but passed to the east of the territory, leaving it unscathed.
