The country's largest apple-handling facility in Újfehértó (240 km northeast of Budapest) will be completed by March next year. Minister of Agriculture István Nagy made the announcement at the inauguration ceremony of the HUF 9.6 billion investment in the small town of Szabolcs-Szatmár-Bereg County according to origo.hu.
Nagy explained that the research, consulting, and post-harvest logistics center based on apple production will also have storage, sorting, and packaging infrastructure.
In addition to its capacity of 9,000 tonnes, it will be able to sell a total of about 20,000 tonnes of table and industrial apples and other fruits.
During the work started in February, the foundations of the buildings, the construction of the structure, and the exterior cladding were completed, and the procurement of sorting and packaging technology was completed, the minister added.
