Hung Hom man stabs wife to death and takes his own life

Police are investigating a suspected murder-suicide at a Hung Hom flat where a man stabbed his wife to death and injured his two sons, before taking his own life.

The man, aged 49, attempted to enter his elder son’s room after killing his wife, aged 48, who was asleep in the bedroom.

The elder son, after seeing his dad wielding a knife, immediately disarmed his dad and rushed out of the room, only to see his mother lying on the ground bleeding and his younger brother providing first-aid, which had already made a report to the police.

The father was said to have locked himself in the kitchen after the incident and committed suicide.

The incident happened at around 8 this morning at Phase 5 Oak Mansions of Whampoa Garden in Hung Hom. The police soon arrived and broke into the apartment upon learning the event.

The brothers, aged 15 and 18, suffered from knife wounds to their shoulder and neck. All four were sent to Queen Elizabeth Hospital. The parents were certified dead at around 9am.

A police spokesman said they are still unable to talk to the brothers.

A poodle was also found dead in the apartment, possibly killed during the event. Staffers from the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals came and collected the body in the afternoon.

According to the police’s initial investigation, the husband ran an IT company and faced financial difficulties recently, which may have triggered the tragedy. The couple had been married for 25 years and there is no record of mental illness for the husband.
