Hong Kong’s horse racing season begins today at the Sha Tin Racecourse with ten races, the first of which started at 1 pm.

Only people who booked seats online in advance will be allowed to enter the racecourse by scanning the LeaveHomeSafe code and providing Vaccine Pass, while entry permission will not be spared to people who hold the amber or red health code.
Racegoers who dine in restaurants with over eight people will be asked to present a negative result of a rapid antigen test within 24 hours or a negative nucleic acid test within 48 hours.
A copper gong with the meaning of “good luck” was set at the site for racegoers to strike to make wishes. People can also receive a calendar for the 2022/23 racing seasons.
Chief executive John Lee Ka-chiu hosted the opening ceremony of the race season and struck the gong.
Raymond Tam Chi-yuen, former Secretary for Constitutional and Mainland Affairs and the Hong Kong Jockey Club’s currently executive director of corporate affairs, said in a social media post that he felt glad to join the opening ceremony.
