The Hongkongers' Book Fair scheduled at Mall Plus in Causeway Bay on Thursday has been canceled at the eleventh hour after the venue provider terminated the tenancy agreement, saying the organizer breached the clauses.
The organizer made the announcement on Facebook that they received a call from the venue provider around 10pm on Tuesday night, who said it was considering terminating the tenancy agreement because the organizer violated some of the clauses of the agreement.
On Wednesday morning, the venue provider called again and confirmed the decision to terminate the agreement. It added it would soon send a written notification to the organizer.
The organizer, on the other hand, expressed disappointment and regret as the venue provider refused to meet up and discuss the matter as promised, and neglected their will to make adjustments.
According to the Facebook post, the venue provider said the organizer breached a clause under the agreement by subletting the venue.
Yet, the organizer argued that they explicitly stated that they rented the venue to stage a book fair when signing the agreement, which would be joined by different exhibitors.
The organizer also said exhibitors setting up their booths at the venue does not mean the organizer is subletting the venue to them, legally speaking.
The organizer then apologized to citizens who have purchased the VIP tickets and made visiting plans, and said they will announce an alternative by 10am tomorrow (Thu).
