HK government warns public over fake "LeaveHomeSafe” app

The Office of the Government Chief Information Officer reminded members of the public to beware of a counterfeit “LeaveHomeSafe” app.

The office said they have recently discovered a fake website claiming there is an update for the app, calling on the public to download.

“The public should be vigilant and not to download anything from unknown websites, which the downloaded applications may contain malware,” said an OGCIO spokesman.

The office added that the “LeaveHomeSafe” has so far been downloaded for over 840,000 times, with over 70,000 public and private venues that have pledged support for the scheme.
