HK Coliseum set to host variety show on July 1 celebration

A variety show is said to be held 8pm on July 1 at Hong Kong Coliseum, as politicians gradually received invitations.

Guests will undergo point-to-point closed-loop management and receive nuclear acid testing every day starting today (Thur).

One of the invitations reads, "to celebrate the 25th Hong Kong's return to the motherland, a grand variety show is to be held at the Hong Kong Coliseum, Hung Hom on Friday, July 1, 2022, at 8pm", with a reminder for guests to wear smart casual.

A reply slip was attached, requesting a reply by email or fax on or before June 25, and indicating that upon receipt of an affirmative reply slip, the invitee will be sent with details of the event by email.

Some pro-democracy District Council chairmen are said to have received invitations to participate in handover events, but without listing the event's details.

Tai Po District Council Chairman Patrick Mo Ka-chun said he received an email last Friday asking him to provide personal information and vaccination records. He said he was not asked to undergo closed-loop management as other pro-Beijing people, describing it as strange.

He had not received any notification about the variety show on July 1 and did not know what activities the officials would like to invite him to. He said he would consider participating if time allows.

Tsuen Wan District Council Chairman Sumly Chan Yuen-sum also received an invitation a few days ago without specifying what the event was. He said he would consider participating if time permitted.

In addition, guests participating in the July 1 event are required to go to the government's designated testing center at Leighton Hill Community Hall for daily nucleic acid testing.

Elsie Leung Oi-sie, a former vice-chairwoman of the Basic Law Committee, said that it is worth the trouble to go to the testing center every day.

Lawmaker Jeffrey Lam Kin-fung said the pandemic in Hong Kong has seen a rebound, and all departments should do their part to prevent the disease and protect the community, therefore, daily testing is not a problem.
