HK celebrates 72nd birthday of People's Republic of China

Government officials including Chief Executive Carrie Lam Cheng Yuet-ngor attended the National Day reception on Friday as SAR celebrated the 72nd birthday of People's Republic of China.

Speaking on the reception this morning, Lam said this year's National Day is of special significance to Hong Kong, as the city has truly got on the right track of "One Country, Two Systems" under the national security law and the improvement on electoral system.

“One can heartily say that Hong Kong is now in the best position ever since our return to the Motherland to leverage its unique advantages under 'One Country, Two Systems' in seeking to integrate into the overall development of our country,” Lam continued.

Lam also pointed out that the fact sheet on US's interfering actions by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the report on business environment by SAR showed how justified are the enactment of national security law and the electoral system improvement.

The city's chief also spoke of China's strong support for Hong Kong in the National 14th Five-Year Plan, development of Greater Bay Area as well as the Qianhai Plan and Hengqin Plan, creating opportunities for Hongkongers.

Also appeared in the celebration were Luo Huining,director of the Liaison Office, and former Chief Executives Leung Chun-ying and Donald Tsang Yam-kuen. Yet Hong Kong's first chief executive Tung Chee-hwa was absent due to his health issues.
