The High Court on Tuesday refused to grant bail to former lawmaker Andrew Wan Siu-kin, one of the 47 pro-democracy politicians and activists charged under the national security law in relation to primary polls for Legco elections that never took place.

Delivering her decision, Madam Justice Esther Toh said she was not satisfied that Wan would not "continue" to do things that would harm national security.

Wan's wife and children attended the hearing, as did fellow party member and co-defendant Helena Wong Pik-wan, who was earlier released on bail.

So far, only 11 of the 47 are out on bail, including Wong, Kalvin Ho Kai-ming, Sze Tak-loy, Lee Yue-shun, Cheng Tat-hung, Michael Pang Cheuk-kei, Ricky Or Yiu-lam, Clarisse Yeung Suet-ying, Lawrence Lau Wai-chung, Hendrick Lui Chi-hang, and Mike Lam King-nam.

Their case is due back in court on May 31.
