Four barristers appointed senior counsel

Four members of the bar were elevated to the prestigious rank of senior counsel during an appointment ceremony today.

Deputy Director of Public Prosecutions Vinci Lam Wing-sai, and three private bar including Phi Chau, Law Man-chung and Norman Nip, were on Monday appointed senior counsel – or had “taken silk” as it is known in the profession.

Lam, now handling commercial crime cases at the Department of Justice’s Prosecutions Division, had achieved success in handling multiple sentence review cases related to the anti-extradition law protest previously.

She was also the personal assistant of the then Director of Public Prosecutions Ian Grenville Cross during the year 2004 to 2008.

She was granted leave by the Department of Justice earlier to undertake pupillage in order to be eligible to qualify as a barrister. Due to her excellent performance and the acknowledgments by multiple legal heavyweights, she has successfully been appointed senior counsel today.
